Offering a welcome diversion from the local Bahamian fare, Double Dragon specializes in Cantonese and Szechwan cuisine. Indeed, their chefs are natives of Canton province, which gives the food here an element of authenticity that's lacking at some other Chinese restaurants. There are numerous options on the menu, from beef and chicken dishes to seafood and pork, with several vegetarian choices as well. International super-chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten has added two Bahamas eateries to his ever-growing list of innovative restaurants. His creative fusion of Asian and French cuisines, with a hint of local island flavor, makes for a truly unique dining experience here. Highlights include tuna spring rolls with soybean salsa, chicken and coconut milk soup with shiitake cakes, goat cheese and watermelon salad, and filet of grouper with a fabulous spicy tomato sauce. But Dune's ambience, created by French interior designer Christian Liaigre, should get equal billing ­ striking ocean views, wraparound terraces, and an intriguing display kitchen combine for absolutely winning results.

A bit more upscale than many of the restaurants in town, with quietly stylish décor, #13;#10;East Villa is a great choice if you're looking for something different but still affordable. The restaurant specializes in Chinese cuisine, with lovely mixtures of fresh veggies and meats or seafood in tasty sauces, some spicy, some mild. Other options include a flavorful broiled New York strip steak and a handful of Continental dishes. #13;#10;

Indigo's international approach to food means that it's possible to get sushi and spaghetti for the same meal, if you should feel so inclined. And both choices are superb, despite the apparent dichotomy. The young sushi chef is truly a master at his art, creating beautiful rolls with the freshest seafood. But additional options range from fried spring rolls and Thai beef salad to mozzarella-tomato salad and carpaccio, and those are just the appetizers. Main courses run the gamut from steaks and ribs to grilled fish and pasta, all expertly prepared and superbly satisfying. The décor, perhaps not surprisingly, is all shades of blue, punched up with splashes of tropical red and orange. A fun and inventive place to enjoy a meal.

Opened in the spring of 2006, Atlantis' Nobu is every bit as elegant, sleek and wonderful as its brothers and sisters, and the food is just as fabulous. Sushi and sashimi make up most of the menu, but there are several additional options as well, including steaks, tempura and a host of cooked Japanese dishes. And in case you're wondering, conch is indeed on the menu! Well-behaved children over 12 are welcome.
