From its perch above the harbor, the revered Buena Vista has offered exceptional Continental cuisine since 1975. Situated in a historic mansion dating back to 1788, the restaurant caters to well-heeled vacationers and guests with a penchant for the finer things in life. Some of the local fare has made its way onto the menu, such as conch chowder and grouper, but the best choices are decidedly European in origin. Standouts include a terrine of foie gras and truffles, and beef tenderloin in Madeira sauce with artichoke and mushrooms. Service is near perfect. Upstairs are a handful of spacious hotel rooms, each with a private bath, A/C, TV, fridge, coffeemaker, iron. The usual hotel facilities are lacking here (no pool, no business center, and so on), but on the other hand the rates are fantastic, the rooms are clean, the location is superb, and one of the top restaurants in Nassau is right at your feet.
